Conversion of a derelict garage to a low energy family home

The scheme involved the remodelling of a derelict garage previously on site to the suit the requirements of contemporary family living.

The site is inside the Settlement Boundary and the Conservation Area in the village of South Woodchester. It also lies within the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The house is of timber “balloon” frame construction with rigid insulation boards between and inside the studs and rafters, with an air tightness membrane internally and triple glazed double weather stripped oak joinery to give average U values of 0.14W/m2K and air permeability test of 1.4m3/(hr.m2).
